Use this to convert input data to a Metaphone output. Metaphone is a phonetic algorithm reflecting the pronunciation of English words. An improvement over a previous algorithm, Methaphone was published in 1990 by Lawrence Philips. Metaphone is built into systems that include later versions of PHP. A version of Methaphone includes languages other than English. With this Metaphone algorithm, similar sounding words such as “there” and “their” are encoded the same. a fixed number of consonant sounds
0 representing the th sounds
X represents SH or CH.
vowels are used only at the beginning of a code
vowels represent English pronounciation
in a word like “dumb” drop the b as it is silent at the end
in a word like “knew” drop the K as it is silent
CK becomes K
PH becomes F
Q becomes K
